How It Works
Air Fryer
The kitchen has a Gourmia digital air fryer (4 qt) with 12 one-touch presets, from AIR FRY and FRIES to BAKE, ROAST and REHEAT.
How to use
- Place the air fryer on a level surface and plug it in. Leave at least 4 inches of free space around and above it.
- Tap the preset you want (AIR FRY, FRIES, WINGS, BACON, SEAFOOD, VEGETABLES, BAKE, ROAST, BROIL, DEHYDRATE, REHEAT or KEEP WARM). The display shows the preset's temperature and time.
- Tap TEMP or TIME, then use the + and − buttons to adjust them.
- Tap PREHEAT or TURN REMINDER to enable or disable them — PREHEAT and TURN show in red on the display when enabled. Preheating generally gives the best results.
- Tap START. With preheat on, the display shows Pr-E hEAT until it beeps and shows Add Food — then carefully slide the basket out, place the food inside and return it; cooking starts automatically.
- With preheat off, put the food in the basket first and then tap START.
- If TURN REMINDER is on, the air fryer beeps halfway through: remove the basket, turn or toss the food with non-metal tongs, and return the basket to resume cooking.
- When the time is up, it beeps and the display shows End. Remove the basket carefully — it and the food are hot — and take the food out with non-metal tongs. Don't tip the basket upside down, as hot oil collected underneath can drip onto the food.
- Press the power icon to turn the air fryer off, and unplug it when you're done.
Good to know
- Tap STOP/CANCEL once to pause cooking and START to resume; tap STOP/CANCEL twice to cancel. Removing the basket during cooking also pauses it — returning it resumes automatically.
- Preheat only before the first batch when cooking several batches in a row.
- Tossing or turning food halfway through gives evenly browned, crispy results. For fresh potatoes, toss with a tablespoon of oil for a crispy exterior.
- Smaller pieces cook a little faster than larger ones, and the air fryer works much like an oven — oven instructions on packaging or recipes work well here.
- To bake a cake or quiche, or to air fry fragile or filled foods, place an oven-safe dish or pan inside the basket.
- Don't cook foods that produce a large amount of grease in the air fryer, and always make sure raw proteins reach a food-safe temperature.
- To silence the beeping, press and hold STOP/CANCEL (press and hold again to turn the sound back on).
Cleaning
- Please clean the air fryer after every use — unplug it first and let it cool down completely (removing the basket helps it cool faster).
- The basket and crisper tray can go on the dishwasher's top rack, or be washed with hot water, dish soap and a non-abrasive sponge. For stuck-on residue, soak the basket in hot water with dish soap.
- Never use metal utensils or abrasive cleaners on the basket or crisper tray — they damage the non-stick coating. Never immerse the cord, plug or unit in water.
- Wipe the outside with a moist cloth and clean the inside with hot water, dish soap and a cleaning brush. Make sure everything is completely dry before using again.
